BUNKER BREWS PROFILE SERIES
Cody Higdem, Founder of GladShake
Why do you attend Bunker Brews?
CH: There are several reasons I go to Bunker Lab events.
First, most of the people there have been touched in some way by the military through their own experience or that of someone close to them, and there is an appreciation of service and self-sacrifice among the people who attend the events. Because of this, most of the entrepreneurs I bump into while at the events are solving substantive issues that have a high opportunity for impact.
Second, I enjoy meeting and watching early stage entrepreneurs grow. It's great to hear someone's idea, that to them seems so fragile, and then watch at a pitch night how it's evolved and how they've grown into owning it by sharing it with the world.
Additionally, Bunker Brews is by far one of the best ways to keep a pulse on the community. There is a pretty wide range of topics that are often covered. Some technical and some business focused. It's a great way to connect with the community and the breadth of topics keeps it interesting.
Finally, everyone I have met through Bunker events has been great — they love to solve problems and are passionate about their domain. It's a great place to vet your ideas, get feedback, or practice your elevator pitch.
How many Bunker Brews (or other Bunker Labs networking events) have you attended?
I was at the Minnesota ribbon cutting at COCO and have continued to attend events. I've attended 50% to 75% of the pitch nights, 25% to 50% of the standard Bunker Brews, and 100% of the Musters.
Have you made valuable connections at the events?
I've made a few great connections. In one connection I was able to sit down multiple times over lunch and coffee and get some great feedback that really changed the trajectory of my venture. In other instances, I've been the one providing insights as my technology background brings a unique point of view that benefits others.
Have any of the events sparked an idea that you’ve since pursued?
Yeah. I like going to events to help me generate ideas and solutions to issues that I'm working on. In fact, my primary venture has been modified pretty significantly due to Bunker Lab events.
How would you describe your business and the stage it's at?
Gladshake helps make networking and connecting with others as painless as possible within organizations, informal groups and at events. In other words, Gladshake helps you find the needle in the haystack when it comes to networking.
We're currently piloting with several groups and getting feedback before making the next big step, which is to start scaling.
How was the trajectory of your business changed through a Bunker Brews encounter?
The events have provided opportunities for networking as well as early stage product and customer interviews which have really given me new insights. It also led to some great referrals which helped us add a list of future products that can assist groups and individuals. In terms of trajectory, it gave a faster insight into the true pains Gladshake was attempting to solve.
